Study: Tax Refund Checks Popular Among Those Who Don’t Understand Basics Of Economics

WASHINGTON D.C. – A major study by the National Bureau of Economic Research shows that getting a tax refund check is very popular among people who don’t understand the basics of economics. “Our research suggests that tax refund checks are very common and popular among people who can’t explain the basics of supply & demand, free markets, or even how interest on a loan works,” lead researcher David Sally said. “And more interesting, the data shows that these same people usually spend their entire refund check immediately upon receipt each year.” Sally went on to say that more crunching of the data is needed to fully understand the root causes, but that “math is really hard”.

Ha! Yeah, I hear people defend it sometimes by saying “well it’s my way to force myself to save”. Still not smart. They’re giving an interest-free loan to Uncle Sam! Their choice.
