T.G.I.F. Friday: Volume 9

Welcome to “Thank God I’m FI” Friday, Volume #9!

Here are some things I really like and that you might too.

Finance Articles

Three Roads For Three Brothers – Doc G has a way with words and excels at exploring the complex topics of life, career, and money in pithy but powerful ways.

Demystifying Crazy Confusing Credit Scores And How I Manage Mine – This is a detailed and comprehensive rundown of all-things credit score. I thought I knew most of what I needed to know but learned from her research.

Video

The human body is designed and meant to move, good health is dependent on that.  As a former borderline obese person who was headed towards type-II diabetes, I learned a bit late in life about the necessity for daily movement.  Watch this inspirational video and get stoked.

Who’s Inspired Me

The folks behind World Bicycle Relief and Buffalo Bikes.

They build an incredibly tough and easy to repair bike that can carry cargo, and give them to the poorest and neediest people in Africa.  They’ve provided about half a million bikes to people in 20 countries.

As they describe it:

In developing countries, millions of people walk for miles each day just to survive. On foot, individuals race against the sun to complete everyday tasks. Distance is a barrier to attending school, receiving healthcare, and delivering goods to market.

What I’m Grateful For

Capitalism and free markets. The incredible bull market of the last decade has enriched me and so many other people not only in America but around the world.  Companies keep innovating and, in general, the world keeps getting better.

Lyrically Speaking

He goes to be famous, a house in the hills
Very little free time, whole lot of pills

From “Rich People Die Unhappy”, by Butch Walker

Well Butch, I’m rich by most standards (but thankfully not famous) and I don’t plan to die unhappy.  And I have lots of free time Butch, because I semi-retired.  I do take some pills, mostly vitamin D and sometimes melatonin.

Butch, let me introduce you to the fine folks of the FIRE movement.  I think you’ll like them.

Dave – good stuff as always.

I agree with your statement “in general, the world keeps getting better.” but here in the UK the impact of climate change on capitalism, free markets and the world getting better is getting a lot of headlines.

I am aware there is more scepticism on your side of the pond (“denial of the science” here is almost a crime) and I do not want to get into a debate on that issue but I am interested in your views on the the impact of the climate change debate and possible outcomes on capitalism, free markets and things getting better.

    Thanks – PJ

This article, written by someone who fully believes in climate change, comes closest to my views. The alarmism and scaring children is hurting things, not helping. As for it’s impact on capitalism, I honestly think there’s nothing we can’t solve as people. I’m an optimist.

      Thanks for stopping by!

  4. Pretty rad to see a video with Will Gadd and yes, lets stay in motion 🙂 I was pretty stoked when he pulled off an Ice FA here on Vancouver Island on the biggest waterfall in the country and he listed me in his shoutout section. Nobody but me probably noticed but I was proud to be the tiny little sub text 🙂

    Keep Moving buddy !
