  1. The happiness is only that high for first 29 cents.
The first regular paycheck I got made me super happy too.

Ha, I was actually targeting the graphic to the person who’s been working the W2 job for years. I agree the first few “real” paychecks in a “real” job are nice, but we know better than most that it fades quickly, since most folks do not like their jobs. Either way, it’s satire 🙂

  2. more good stuff, dave. that day i sell a blog t-shirt you’ll see me dancing around the hacienda. i’ll try and get video confirmation.

As a teenager I always had some type of money-earning job. Be it mowing yards, walking beans, de tasseling corn, bailing hay, or raising and retail selling produce, I worked.

When I got the professional degree all the other jobs went away. I could do work that required a license to do and thus generated more income per hour than non license requiring jobs.

    Dance with who brung ya…..

And invest in equity mutual funds!

I’m with ya, but for most after they get disillusioned with their day job the side hustle becomes the “it” thing, and the actual “passion work”.

  4. I think it depends on the side hustle. Some are very similar to jobs. Like uber. Some, the earnings especially starting out are vary loosely connected to specific work. Like blogging. Then there is a whole spectrum between that.

Starting to earn money loosely connected to work feels very exciting.

The green bar doesn’t lie haha

  6. Living north of the border, what do you mean by W2 job? Do you just mean an employee of someone else? (which is what I assume) . I agree, creating your very own income is a gratifying experience.

Ha, sorry, didn’t realize that a lot of non-US folks might not understand what a W2 is. A W2 form is basically the tax form that US folks are required to submit to the IRS that tells how much we made, and how much we paid in taxes. Then the government tells us if we owe more or if we paid too much and get a refund. So we us the term “W2 job” to refer to a “real job”, where you’re working for a company in an official setting.

For you I’m guessing money that you make from your photography doin’ your own thing makes you way happier than income from a former corporate job. I think it’s true for most.

      • Well we fill out the same form wether we are self employed or in a normal employee role, both use the same T1 Form for income tax returns annually. If you own a corporation you would fill out a Corporate return and then a T1 as you most likely earned dividends or a wage/salary from your business.

Yes, making your own money feels so much better and fulfilling.

  7. Yes!!! So true!
I make good money at my W2 job (which I fortunately enjoy), but I can’t believe how excited I was, just this past week, to earn $0.83 in the first 4 days after I added ads to my 6-month old blog about Shihpoo dogs (yes, funny name, but they are adorable dogs). It’s like you were reading my mind.
