Frugal Nut Thinks Socks Still Have At Least A Year Or Two Left

HILLIARD, OH – Area frugal weirdo Ben Stanfield is “pretty sure” he can still get a year or two out of his 16 year old socks, according to sources.  “I’ve been hang drying them for a few years now to prevent fabric loss, so that’s helped” said Stanfield, as he delicately handled one of the socks to show reporters.  “Please refrain from using flashes, I’m not sure what that does to the fabric” he cautioned, smiling proudly.

After seeing the wispy socks which are so thin they barely fall to the ground when dropped, a few reporters expressed doubt to Stanfield’s claim.  “Sure there’s holes in a few of the toes, but they’re not so big that my dogs poke through, so that’s good.  If I control those holes these babies should be good for a while”, proclaimed Stanfield.

At press time Stanfield was seen scraping crusty cheese off a piece of aluminum foil so he could reuse it to bake brownies.

Reporter’s weren’t allowed to see his underwear as it was quarantined..

Thanks Fritz, I’m glad some people get my brand of humor

  2. dude, our sheets fell apart a few weeks ago. I would flip the pillow over and hear the case tear and both sheets all shredded at the same time. we gave them a royal funeral for all the loyal service.

all that being said it sucks to buy an item like that.

Ok you got me, a few years ago I did let a fitted sheet go a bit too long. It had a hole, or three. Just touching it practically ripped it. Then instead of throwing it out I tore it to pieces and use it for rags to clean. Winning!

Too funny. My husband actually does both these things but I love him anyway!

I just stumbled across your blog and am really enjoying your posts and perspective. Thanks for putting it out there.

Please clarify. Did he want to re-use the foil, the cheese, or both?

    • Dave @ Accidental FIRE says:

I’m going with both. Scraped cheese pairs nicely with Ritz for appetizers when friends come over.

  6. Instead of shrugging off the humor and moving on I find myself thinking about sewing the holes in my Smartwool socks…

Smartwool sock s are my favorite! They’re my only cycling and hiking socks and they never get stinky. I’d spend time sewing them up for sure.

HAHA! Not so big that the dogs poke through. Phew!

Very good tips. My wife is working through the “how big does the hole in this heel need to be” before tossing. I, on the other hand, let the holes just get that much bigger on my dress socks since, really, they offer no functional benefit other than not baring my ankles.

Sadly, this is the true state with our socks right now; we’re not that far from world of Turnip FIRE.
