I reached financial independence and semi-retired in my mid-40's through hard work, smart living, and investing. This blog chronicles my journey and explores many aspects of personal finance including the psychological and behavioral factors that drive our habits.
Guilty of that myself, except not with our neighbor, we just have one and she is an 82 year old widow who is as sweet as honey. Today she knew my wife was out of state so she dropped off some homemade soup and a piece of pie for me for lunch!
My 35 year old neighbours told me trying to get half off anything makes you look cheap. They have matching $80k Volvos sitting in the driveway and pay people $20 per hour to rake their leaves, clean their windows, shovel their snow etc. They’re completely baffled that I drive an “old car” (7 yr old paid for Honda) when you can lease something new every year. Both endlessly lament that they’ll never be able to retire because home ownership is so expensive. I try not to let my head tilt like the RCA dog during these conversations but it’s pretty damned tough.
Your neighbors sound like an even more extreme version of mine. My next door neighbor at least has reasonable vehicles, but he buys all of the pricey gadgets elsewhere. Haha, love the reference to the RCA dog, that’s one that I’m sure younger folk won’t get.
Turnip FIRE! is like, real fake news. I mean, there’s fake news that’s meant to be real, and then fake news that’s meant to be fake. The fake news that’s meant to be real is like, actual fake news. Turnip FIRE! is fake fake news…. okay now I’m confused…. Anyhoo, don’t take any Turnip FIRE! stories seriously. Just don’t.
i never liked that neighbor.
total jackass
You went biking too today.
