iPhone Fanatics Wait 12 Hours In Line To Delay Retirement

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – Scores of iPhone fans waited over 12 hours in line at the downtown San Francisco Apple store to secure their delayed retirement.  The excitement was palpable as the sensibly stylish throng affirmed their adherence to a subculture fully resigned to work into their 70s.  “I just hope there’s one left with my name on it when I get in there”, said Bryce Esposito, fearing the dreadful alternative of sound finances and zero debt.  At one point a passing heckler barked that they could save lots of money with a sensible Android, which elicited groans from the crowd. “Oh God, look at his shoes and jeans…… really?” scoffed one Apple fan, clearly offended by the hecklers clothes.  He then texted to his friend “lol, whatever…..” on his perfectly good 9 month old $1,200 iPhone XS, who was two positions away in line.

As of press time the man’s estimated retirement age slipped from age 69.5 to age 70.4.

  1. LOL, so true! I’m an iPhone user, but I’m still my iPhone 6 and have no plans to upgrade or make a lateral movement to a refurbished one any time soon (unless this one suddenly dies).

On the other hand, all those people standing in line to delay their retirement were the reason I took half the money I had set aside to pay for nursing school to buy Apple stock. In less than 3 years, it doubled. It dropped a bit before I cashed it all out and bought my house, though. Since we’re both invested in index funds that include AAPL, we should be thankful those big spenders exist. 😛

You make a great point, as easy as it is to mock those apple zombies, I am grateful to profit from their poor financial habits. Does that make me a bad person?

      • Hmm…if it makes you a bad person, then it makes me a bad person, so no. Seriously, people will always buy what they want, regardless of repercussions. Someone will always benefit from those purchases. And we can all choose which role we want in that cycle. But, hey, I’ve owned multiple iPhones, multiple Apple computers, and 1 iPad.

  2. ha ha ha! I love my iphone but I use it till it dies…which, still happens more than I’d like it it’s life cycle. I fear apple has a self-destruct mode on iphones after 2-3 years.

Even though I’m not an Apple fan, I respect their innovation and would be more than disappointed if I learned they put in a self-destruct mode. But big corporations have done far worse before…

  3. The funny thing is though there is a flip side to this 🙂

The technological advances in the video and photo functioning of this phone are leaps and bounds. There is a swath of us out there that make a good deal of income off creating with these smartphones as tools and what they are now capable of is amazing. My current iPhone is 2.5 years old, I have held off with the last 3 updates but now I will be looking at upgrading possibly within the next year to better be able to create content. The 3 lens system and wide angle function is a massive update as well as low light exposure, 3 axis image stabilization for video and better 4k slow mo modes.

Of course those of us who use the phone for our business and freelance content creation is a very very small swath and your article pretty much nails it bang on for those frivolously spending money for that next new thing.

Kind of like the .02% of SUV owners who actually use an SUV for off-road travel, vice getting groceries. I would think you’d use a DSLR or a good compact mirrorless, they should blow the iPhone away or is it a size thing?

      • I of course have a mirrorless crop sensor powerhouse camera, but as the technology increases it is nice to see that I have the opportunity to only own one device. I have found time and time again this year I left my mirrorless at home because the iPhone is just so capable…and yes size and weight matters when you are carrying 4 days worth of gear backpacking lol

  4. i have no phone. i win. it’s not so much that i couldn’t take some of the wine budget and get a phone. i win for being unreachable.

Well, you got us there. But you are reachable through your blog and twitter, so at least you’re not under a rock…

I chuckled at the name Bryce simply because I had never met someone before with that name until I was on a chat with an Apple rep last week. He also said I could call him Bry, which of course I did. 😛

  6. Robert says:

I’m also convinced Apple has a self destruct mode, my battery life starts draining as soon as the new model is released?

At least the SE will be released soon for us frugal types.

Lol I hate to admit but I think this just happened to me as I switched from a perfectly working iPhone 8 Plus to the latest Pixel 4XL
