T.G.I.F. Friday: Volume 18

Welcome to “Thank God I’m FI” Friday, Volume #18!

Here are some things I really like and that you might too.

Finance Articles

Net Worth vs Cash Flow: What’s More Important? (Your Average Dough) – “Yes, a higher income is a great thing to strive for because it would make it easier to save more money. However, spend more time focusing on living below your means, but comfortably, and you’ll find yourself saving more than you thought you could.”

Having The Right Mindset – (Tawcan) –

Video

This is Fabio’s second appearance in this space.  Sometimes I wish I were named Fabio…  anyhoo, if this video doesn’t make your jaw drop nothing will. I think he might have better trials skills than Danny MacAskill, but it’d be close.

And if you’re thinking any of that stuff is a “trick of the camera” and fabricated, then watch him mess all the tricks up a million times and crash spectacularly in “the making of” version.  It’s all real.

Who’s Inspired Me

Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley.

They’re the two astronauts that sat on top of a massive controlled bomb last Saturday – built by a private company – to get launched into space.  Whenever I consider how much risk I’m willing to accept in my portfolio, or when climbing a mountain, I need to rethink what risk means.  Perspective.

What I’m Grateful For

The Asics shoe company. Yep, you read that right. I’ve been running exclusively in Asics shoes for over 20 years and I can buy a size 12 over the internet and they fit perfect every time. Just got a new pair and the streak continues, fit like a glove. They make great affordable running shoes that have helped me keep a healthy body and mind, and that’s kind of important.

Lyrically Speaking

Father, father
We don’t need to escalate
You see, war is not the answer
For only love can conquer hate
You know we’ve got to find a way
To bring some lovin’ here today

From “What’s Going On?“, by Marvin Gaye

Sigh.

  1. Ok, Fabio just sucked me down a rabbit hole. Amazing skills. And, ironically, I’m also an Asics guy, been a loyal Asics runner for 25 years. Can’t beat ’em!

If you like bikes at all, once you get started watching vids of those trails masters, you can’t stop. They’re amazing.. and go Asics!

  2. i’ll bet you already knew that ASICS means “anima sani in corpore sano” or healthy soul in healthy body, just like you alluded to. if not, there’s your daily useless trivia. i miss those early x-calibur gt shoes from around 1981 and the ugly but great epirus from the mid 80’s.

our large corporation offers a big health insurance discount (around 600/year) and around 300 cash back in visa gift cards if you track things like sleep, steps, and exercise. i was already doing it and although i am a huge privacy advocate i take the money. it’s all automated from my dorky dumb watch anyhow and my stats probably look pretty good versus the average. you can input the stuff manually and tell whatever truth you want but i got nothing to hide about this and i’m too lazy to input all that and disconnect the watch.

holy shit I DID NOT know that! I just got edumacated and feel like I can just coast through the rest of the day. Seriously, that’s cool! I never thought about the name ‘Asics’, just thought it was probably a Greek word or something.

As for the health discount, my HMO introduced an app to track running & cycling etc and get some money back but get this – it’s IOS only! Fuckers. There’s more Andriod phones out there than Apple ones, and that’s probably why they did it that way. As many miles as I run and ride each week I’d probably have them paying me after the discounts.

  3. SpaceX was a bright spot of this past week, that’s for sure!

  4. Gotta say that Fabio certainly has amazing skills…although probably should have a disclaimer not to try this at home.

Also, the Tawcan post is great … mindset is so important in life.

    TGIF to all!

When you’re named Fabio as a child I guess the pressure is heavy to deliver something cool in life 🙂

  5. Trials riders are so talented, I’ll have to add Fabio to the list of riders I follow on YouTube.

I used to have some moves back when I did BMX but not any more. And nothing like those guys. It’s like the bike is another limb on their body!
