T.G.I.F. Friday: Volume 51

Welcome to “Thank God I’m FI” Friday, Volume #51!

In the unbelievable news category, I’ve been nominated for a Plutus Award this year for Blog Of The Year!  To anyone out there who took time to vote for me I sincerely thank you and appreciate your readership and support!

Here are some things I really like and that you might too.

Finance Articles

What Do I Need? (One Frugal Girl) – “Once we have enough money to fill our basic needs, we often think about the other stuff we want and need in our lives.”

How To Have Negative Healthcare Costs (Clipping Chains) – “As of this month, I’m pleased to announce that we are officially getting paid to have health insurance.”

Video

Let’s just say I would have been bailing more than water out of my kayak if this happened to me…. incredible.

Who’s Inspired Me

All those who bravely and selflessly went in to help on that fateful day 20 years ago tomorrow.

What I’m Grateful For

That I’ve been fortunate enough to travel to over 40 countries in my lifetime.  I was listening to a podcast about the benefits of travel recently and it made me reflect on my global adventures and realize that I should never take it for granted how blessed I’ve been.

Lyrically Speaking

‘Cause there’s always tomorrow
To do everything, did you know
That yesterday was your last chance
To take it slow

From “American Dream Come True” by Young Mister

Young Mister is the name that Steven Fiore releases music under after a career writing songs for other people at Universal Music.  Regulars to this section of T.G.I.F Fridays know I like highlighting unknown and obscure artists, and Young Mister is very much both of these.  But damn, this guy can sing and he writes some great songs too.

I love those lines above, to me they conjure up thoughts of retirement and being able to do everything I’ve always wanted.  But at the same time I wrote a post a while back about modern times and how everything is seemingly on hyperdrive with no end in sight.  So while “do all the things” sounds great, slowing down does too.  I hope I didn’t miss my last chance to take it slow.

Check out Young Mister’s catalog on Bandcamp and support him if you like his music

Miscellaneous

More Exercise Lowers Risk of Severe COVID-19 – “Patients with COVID-19 who were “consistently inactive” were 226% more likely to be hospitalized, 173% more likely to be admitted to an intensive care unit, and 149% more likely to die.”

The Creator Economy Needs a Middle Class – “Societies and platforms flourish when there is a path for everyone to have upward mobility, achieve financial security, and learn and grow.”

What Really Happens When a Grocery Store Opens in a ‘Food Desert’? – “NYU research suggests that the presence of a new neighborhood supermarket doesn’t necessarily change what people buy and eat.”

    Congrats Dave! Well deserved.

That whale video though… It’s so humbling to see how big animals and nature can be. It goes to show you that we are just visitors in this world sometimes.
